EISD Superintendent Jay Tullos is going over the final check-list as the start of the new school year gets the green light and All Systems Go signal.

Headquartered in DeSoto, Eternal Rest Funeral Homes, will add a second site in Ennis, which they reported six months ago. The new location will be their fifth branch.

The Downtown Ennis Bluebonnet Market is in the middle of yet another successful season. It is held from 8 a.m. until noon on the renovated North Dallas Street.

Over a year has passed since Italy ISD partnered leadership with new Superintendent Rachel Kistner, and her tenure has been described as a good fit. Heading into the start of a new school year, she is confident in the future of the district.

ERSPA to Hold August Meeting

In the summer of 1893, one of the most gruesome murders in the history of the Ennis area took place. The fatal rape and mutilation of 15-year-old Frantiska (“Frances”) Cervenka, a daughter of Karel Cervenka, a well-known Czechoslovakian farmer, held the attention of the state for a week as horrific details of the crime were reported and two suspects, Abe House and Ed Gibson, were arrested. The horror of the killing was likened to “those perpetrated by Jack the Ripper.”

News that country singer Pat Green will appear in Ennis at Autumn Daze festivities in October has one local woman more than thrilled.

Texans tired of the heat wave can find solace in the headliners booked to appear at the Ennis Autumn Daze 2022, set for Oct. 28-30, when a pair of country music icons will take the stage on the downtown bricked streets. Pat Green, with Gary P. Nunn opening for him, will turn Ennis into a series of Wave-on-Wave country hits.

Hon. Paul Perry, Ellis County Commissioner for Precinct 3 since 2013, was honored recently by the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) for five years of pursuing excellence in his county investment education. The TAC recognition took place during June 27-29 Conference of the County Investment Academy held in Galveston.
