This past weekend, Ennis Main Street Midway, the downtown carnival that’s come to the Bluebonnet City the last few years, coincided with Ennis Freedom Fest that offered free musical entertainment and a fireworks show at Veterans Memorial Park, 2301 Ennis Pkwy.

Authorized by a vote of the County Judge and Commissioners on June 28, Ellis County is officially under a 90-day burn ban. While enforceable by an any duly commissioned peace officer, it does not apply to the sale or detonation of fireworks.

One of the most distinguished public figures to call Ennis home was Katie Daffan who lived out her final years here. This month (July 29) marks her 148th birthday.

Last Friday, June 17, District 6 Congressman Jake Ellzey joined his Texas colleague Pat Fallon in introducing the Lone Star Reimbursement Act. This legislation would require the Department of Defense to reimburse the State of Texas for the costs of Operation Lone Star incurred in fiscal years 2021 and 2022.
