Ennis graduate Sarah Bell was named to the Fall 2021 Dean’s List at LeTourneau University in Longview. The Dean’s List recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99 for the semester.

Fresh snowfall can bring a hush over any landscape and, temporarily at least, create a perfect picture scene. As idyllic as such landscapes can be, snow-covered sledding hills can pose various threats to outdoor lovers’ health and safety.

Giving rise to the growing demand for housing in the area are three separate apartment complexes in Ennis. The newest site just poured concrete slabs this week.

Ennis Police arrested two adult males attempting to steal a bulldozer on Saturday evening, Jan. 29, at 1405 S. Interstate Highway 45 on the southbound service road.

Reports of shots fired between two individuals in the 300 block of W. Tyler St. led EPD police to open an investigation of the incident.

A line-up card comprised of area dance teams, headlined by Ennis’ own, Ellis County Commissioner Lane Grayson and his sister-in-law, Danceworks owner, Julie Grayson, will be raising funds for the Texas Baptist Children’s Home at the Feb. 5 Dancing With The Ellis County Stars benefit.

Last week marked the 10th anniversary of the publication of an influential book by a local writer and correspondent for this paper, Randy Bryan Bigham. The book, Lucile – Her Life by Design, was originally released in January 2012. Some 310 pages, it is a biography of the British couturier Lucile whose designs set the pace of Edwardian era fashion, revolutionizing the dressmaking industry through her innovative publicity and marketing ventures. The book contains over 300 illustrations, many in color.

Community growth has prompted the Ennis Independent School District to make room for an influx of students by turning the former high school into Alamo Middle School in time for this fall. The strategic move led administration to name Alex Rendon as principal at this new sixth grade campus, though he will finish out the remainder of this semester as Assistant Principal at Ennis High School.
