Hundreds gathered at Avenue Church on Wednesday to recognize the collaborative efforts of the Greater Ennis United Way during the past year.

Ennis Independent School District congratulated the finance office staff for receiving the Texas Education Agency’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). Accountability by public schools are expected by taxpayers, so operating with high-level integrity in financial management practices is welcomed as good news.

Tuesday’s spirited dialogue inside the chambers of City Hall represented differing insights and views of strong leaders. Elected for such discourse in determining the direction of Ennis, it led to curbing and merging while agreeing on a 2026 city budget that won’t be completed until the September 2 meeting of the City Commission.

During their regular meeting on August 19, Ennis City Commissioners demonstrated a strong commitment to potential home-buyers, existing homeowners, and local taxpayers by denying a commercial re-zoning plan and pushing back against a proposed property tax increase.

Seeking a third term as Justice-ofthe- Peace of Ellis County’s Precinct One, Chris Macon has made public his bid for reelection.

After 20+ years of exemplary leadership, Ferris High School Band Director Jennifer Kofahl retired in the spring. Capping her decades of work last year, both the Honors and Symphonic bands earned superior ratings in concert.

Kicking off this Friday, August 29, Ennis and five other high schools in the coverage of The Ennis News will get their new season started. The Lions will host arch-rival Waxahachie at Lion Memorial Stadium at 7:00 p.m. The Ennis Marching Band, Lionettes, Cheer Team and Flag Crew will entertain weekly.

Two weeks away from Unity in the Community and the City of Ennis joint event, the biggest and best Blues on Main Street, set for Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31.
