Seeking a third term as Justice-ofthe- Peace of Ellis County’s Precinct One, Chris Macon has made public his bid for reelection.

After 20+ years of exemplary leadership, Ferris High School Band Director Jennifer Kofahl retired in the spring. Capping her decades of work last year, both the Honors and Symphonic bands earned superior ratings in concert.

Kicking off this Friday, August 29, Ennis and five other high schools in the coverage of The Ennis News will get their new season started. The Lions will host arch-rival Waxahachie at Lion Memorial Stadium at 7:00 p.m. The Ennis Marching Band, Lionettes, Cheer Team and Flag Crew will entertain weekly.

Two weeks away from Unity in the Community and the City of Ennis joint event, the biggest and best Blues on Main Street, set for Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31.

School bells have binged and bonged all across town, in fact, the sounds they make indicate it’s time to start class. Or it’s the tardy bell. Better yet, the ringing spares students, meaning it’s the end of the last day of clay.

When Kyle Ramsey arrived in Palmer 10 years ago, the marching band barely had enough members to form a capital I during their halftime performance. The East Texas A&M graduate has lived his best life in the years since, and so has the band.

Area Congressman Jake Ellzey brought an impassioned message about America “not sitting idly by” during a lunch meeting to the Rotary Club. Held in the Bluebonnet Room at the Welcome Center on Tuesday to accommodate the crowd, which included seating for non-Rotarian adults interested in Ellzey’s update from the nation’s capital.

For the fourth consecutive year, Ellis County Historical Commission was honored with the Texas Historical Commission Distinguished Service Award for 2024 for logging countless hours of volunteer service to preserving history in Ellis County. The award was presented at the August 5 meeting of the Ellis County Commissioners Court. County Judge John Wray presented the award to ECHC Chair David Sacha.
