Youth pastor pleads guilty to sexually assaulting four minors
Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that Marvin Scales, 53, of Waxahachie, Texas, pled guilty to two counts of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child, one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and one count of Sexual Assault of a Child. Scales was sentenced to 50 years in prison on September 23, 2024.

Ferris fire claims life
A Thursday, Sept. 19, morning blaze inside a home at 741 East India Road in Ferris, just north of FM 660 and two miles northwest of Sugar Ridge Winery, trapped two victims inside. Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 6:15 a.m. and located one victim, deceased, due to heavy smoke and fire.
