Close to 38 percent of American households have a dog in the household, while 25 percent own a cat. Forbes Advisor reported this year that pet ownership in America has risen from 56 percent to 66 percent per home over the past 35 years. It is no wonder that between 75-86 percent of pet owners consider them to be a member of their family.
Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that on November 2, 2023, Richard Rodriguez (42) of Midlothian, Texas, pled guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault Family Violence Impeding Breath with a Previous Conviction, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Rodriguez was set to start a jury trial on November 6, 2023, when he pled guilty.
Domestic violence is a serious issue that’s more prevalent than people may realize. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that nearly 20 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States, and researchers suggest the pandemic contributed to increased instances of domestic violence.
Each November, people across the United States and its territories honor the brave men and women who serve and have served in the various branches of the country’s military. Veterans Day is observed annually every November 11 and honors the service of all U.S. military veterans. The day should not be confused with Memorial Day, which is celebrated each year in May and honors all military personnel who have died in service.
