Of the 114 cities entered in eleven different categories for the 2023 Texas Downtown Association President’s Awards Program, the City of Ennis is a finalist in three categories.

Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that Jose Sierra, 38, of Waxahachie, Texas, was sentenced to Life in prison for Injury to Child.

The family that lived in the house pictured, was that of David Shelton Sessions. It was located at 509 S Dallas St. in Ennis. This house was located on the corner of S. Dallas and Lampasas, The property of the Session family covered ½ of the 500 block of S. Dallas, down to McKinney on the West. The Sanborn map of 1915 shows a dwelling with a couple of out buildings, descendants remember visiting their grandparents and roaming the property with a garden, an orchard and barn.

Former Ennis businesswoman J. Nicole Jackson, who was reelected to a second term as the mayor of nearby Rice, Texas, resigned last week due to health issues in her family.

Property at the corner of W. Ennis Avenue and SW Main Street, which has sat vacant for approximately two years, is scheduled to begin demolition.
