Interim Director of the Economic Development Corporation, Joe Newman, smiled gratefully on Monday when Mayor Kameron Raburn swore in five adults to serve on the Kaufman Street Development District board. The EDC workshop was held at the EDC Conference Room at 108 W. Knox St.

Three men were nominated by Mayor Kameron Raburn and were then approved unanimously in a 6-0 vote at the March 4 meeting of City Commissioners.

The City of Ennis has announced plans to triple their annual budget on the area’s network of avenues.

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has recognized the former community of Sand Lake in Ellis County as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical Marker. The designation honors Sand Lake as an important and educational part of local history. A dedication ceremony to commemorate the event is planned for Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. The ceremony and reception will be held at The Telico Gin, 948 Kirkpatrick Road, Ennis, Texas 75119.

Newly renovated, the Ennis Public Library is scheduled to open on Monday, March 10, with last-minute areas in progress approaching this weekend.

Bardwell Area Volunteer Fire Department, along with the VFD from Alma, have been recognized as officially part of Ellis County’s Emergency Services District #10.
