Opinions
Here come the nine judges
A piece of cake
My husband, Peter, and I landed in Mexico again, and we did what we have done in the past. We bought an enormous cake. It’s nice to have a cake in the house. I have discovered it is not necessarily a good idea to eat cake every day, as it eventually makes my clothes too small. But I do like cake, and I especially like Mexican cake, and more than anything, I like giving cake away.
Crow meat salad, anyone?
Grace that is greater than all our sin
Since you were conceived God has wanted your attention. He has never neglected or ignored you. If you were to write down all the blessings and victories He has given over the years, they would prove He has been guiding and helping you all along. How could any of us even consider we were created by chance? The truth is that God specifically called you and has many wonderful things planned for your future. You are His masterpiece.
Electing leaders
Ennis has enjoyed the past 24 years with two strong, popular mayors. Russell Thomas was at the helm for 16 and his successor, Angie Juenemann, the following eight. The latter was the first female to ever hold the office, and she is completing her third term. Twice she won by very large margins. She ran unopposed one time.
Dodging the question
“Have you stopped beating your wife?” That, my friends, is an ageold loaded question. If you say yes or no, is an admission that you have beaten her in the past. Today’s media, especially the talking heads on television or those writing stories which will be published nationwide, are skilled at making controversial assumptions or presuming guilt so the agenda of the questioner is served. They figure you, the viewer, or you, the reader, will gloss over their stated words and entrap your mind to accept their fallacy.
Enough
My husband, Peter, and I are headed out to Mexico again, and before we do, I thought it was a good time of year to check in with some folks I care about, to see how 2024 had been treating them so far. First, I had dinner with my oldest friend, Andrew. He told me about his mother, who lives alone and has been feeling her 92 years. Her activities are becoming more limited, and she may move into a smaller place. She’s figuring out what she is still able to do, and how much is enough.
Polling extremes
If you ask enough people you can find those who believe the earth is flat, that the moon landing was fake, that Sasquatch is a distant relative, that Elvis was seen last month at a Waffle House Newsweek and that news on American TV is truthful. To aid in purporting these illusions, man creates polls. When the polling shows belief in the media’s biased views, they report them as valid. When they reveal the opposite, the said tally of opinions are not to be trusted.
