Results from Bullard-Williams Relays last week at Corsicana

A young and eager Ennis baseball team has begun what they believe will be an improved contender in District 14-5A. Improving and contending could be two separate categories considering four of the eight teams in the league were ranked in the preseason.

No. 2 ranked Crockett showed just how good their defensive bite can be in a 63-25 area round playoff win over Palmer at Fairfield. The Class 3A second round game between two teams named Bulldogs, allowed one to extend their winning streak to 21 games and advance to meet No. 8 Little River Academy (30-6).

Rising to the occasion, the Ennis Track & Field team bested a touch field at the Bullard-Williams Relays at Corsicana’s Tiger Stadium. The Lions racked up 169.5 points and held off Red Oak (158.5), Waco La Vega (111) while host Corsicana was fourth with 99. On the junior varsity side, Ennis JV did very well and finished fourth with 112 points.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University has once again enjoyed success on the hardcourt. The regular season ended over the weekend and the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament takes place this week.

Defending the District 8-5A championship Ennis won by sweeping all eight opponents en route to the title will likely be tougher this fall. Losing to eventual state champion Aledo in the fourth round of the playoffs, the Lions, 12-2 in 2019, will play two district champions, Red Oak (11-2) and Crandall (10-3), both on the road.

Paige Greenberg, a member of Team Liberty Cheer Justice, who are two-time Texas Special Olympics Cheerleading Champions, was chosen to participate at an international meet, held Saturday, February 8 in Orlando, Florida. Greenberg participated as a member of Team ParaCheer Spirit, an exhibition team. ParaCheer Spirit participated in a demonstration of Adaptive Abilities Game Day Cheer (a division in school cheerleading and Special Olympics Cheerleading). Greenberg was one of approximately 14,000 cheerleaders participating and competing at the National High School Cheerleading Competition.
