Expanding Ennis baseball, softball; additional cities join

One year after delivering a thirdplace finish in District 6-5A behind state-ranked Terrell (12-1) and Heritage (9-4), Head Coach Don Drake released the new 2026 football schedule. Ennis, 7-5 in 2025, returned to the playoffs after their 12-year streak ended.

Two of the seven positions on the Ennis Independent School District (EISD) board will be up for election this spring on Saturday, May 2.

Garrett Bailey stated in early October his plan to seek the position of Precinct 2 as one of four Ellis County Commissioners. The area covers Ennis and neighboring land toward Waxahachie.

Seven-year-old gymnast wins medals in Miami

Ellis County voters will do well in choosing either of two viable candidates for the new 504th District Court. Republican Greg Wilhelm has the edge headed into the March 3 election day after he was appointed to the 504th bench by Governor Greg Abbott on November 24.

Three voting days are on the horizon, and registered voters in the area have reason to make the effort to participate in each of them.
