In recognition of the men and women who gave their all for this country, the annual Ennis Veterans Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25, at the Ennis Veterans Memorial. It is located adjacent to All-Star Bowl and behind Don Jose’s Restaurant. The public is invited.

Ennis didn’t need to go far to name its new City Manager in Marty Nelson. It was a unanimous decision by City Commissioners on Tuesday, May 19.

Jake Holland, Ennis’ new mayor pro tem, succeeding Matt Walker to serve the city with Mayor Angie Juenemann, is already known to many locals. At 35, Holland is a lifelong Ennisite remembered for his athletic prowess while attending Ennis High.

A Sunday evening boating accident on Lake Bardwell sent three victims to area hospitals, none seriously. According to the Ellis County Informer, several emergency responders took part in the rescue, including a medevac.

Honoring those who sacrificed their life for the USA, Memorial Day is an annual day of significance. To heighten awareness of the meaning of the day, poppy blossoms are distributed and worn. They became a symbol when fields of red poppies inspired a 1915 poem, “In Flander Fields,” by Canadian Army Col. John McCrae.
