An 8-year-old local girl is making the most of quarantine restrictions by bringing happiness to area residents with her homemade greetings cards, pictures and letters.

Finally making its 2020 debut, the Bluebonnet Market, formerly known as the Ennis Farmers Market, returns next Saturday, May 23. New Director A’Lara Smith, who hails from Frost, has indicated the hours will be the same, 8 a.m. until noon, but disclosed a surprise location.

Like many Czech residents of his day, Joe F. Honza, Sr. (1896-1955) was a devoted father and husband as well as a successful farmer in the Ennis area. His son, Lawrence Honza, remembers him as hard-working, dependable and caring, again not unlike many men who supported their families in the first half of the 20th century.

Ennis residents don’t have to be told about the city’s Czech history. It’s something they know all about and are proud to share, whether they’re Czech or just warmed by the traditions with which most locals are familiar as friends and neighbors of families with Czechoslovakian roots.

Ennis, Texas (May 3, 2020) – Ennis Regional Medical Center (ERMC) today announced that Robert Rupp has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO), effective May 4, 2020. He replaces Bob Honeycutt who has transitioned to another hospital within the LifePoint Health network. Rupp will also assume the role of CEO of Parkview Regional Hospital located in Mexia, Texas.

News of recent hire David Casarez as the Ennis Parks and Recreation Department manager is being met with plenty of buzz. This guy, who was working for the Texas Rangers baseball team last year, is effervescent. His passion and vision for a wide array of recreational fun validates the excitement about the impact he looks to make here in Eastern Ellis County.

Ennis residents met downtown at noon on Thursday to join in a series of prayers for homes, health, businesses, families, schools, front-line workers, police, fire, civic and government leaders.

Staycations have grown in popularity in recent years. A 2018 poll from YouGov Omnibus found that 53 percent of the more than 100,000 participants had taken a staycation at some point, proving that forgoing traditional vacations for relaxing respites in the comfort of home is a wildly popular trend.

The Ennis Chamber of Commerce prepared food for the Ennis Police Dept as a Thank you for their service. The meal consisted of smoked brisket donated by First State Bank, smoked by Jay Cruzan of Caliber Voice and Data with the help of Brian Pierce, husband of Chamber Board Chairman Julie Pierce. Tea provided by Julia Browning of J Browning Realty, bread by Karen Buckley with Century 21 Judge Fite, Bluebonnet City Grill provided cole slaw and potato salad, and cakes and cream cheese rolls baked by Jeannette Patak, Chamber President.
