A surprise was received in the mail last week when local freelance writer Randy Bryan Bigham, a contributor of features and historical pieces to The Ennis News, opened a gift as payment for his services as consultant on a book.

Supporting the physical needs of Ennis students in need of a sports physical, the Ennis Regional Medical Center completed physicals for over 110 incoming seventh grade student athletes, boys and girls, during May 2-3.

The National Polka Festival Weekend that’s coming up soon draws thousands of visitors each year, everyone eager to sample the traditional food, drink, dance and all the other aspects of Czechoslovakian culture symbolized by the event.

Being the hands of the community and God’s hands extended, was the intended message of Tuesday’s Open House at Helping Hands of Ennis. New Director Korey McCrady said the many improvements to their facilities weren’t the primary emphasis. “It was about everyone seeing our heart for our community and our willingness to do whatever it takes to help meet the needs,” he said. “We had a good turnout too. It was important for people to see, feel and sense our heart.”

Primary Runoff Elections are set for Tuesday, May 24, with both Republican or Democratic ballots being casts. Voters are ineligible to vote or participate in another political party’s primary election or convention this voting year.

Over the last two years, people from all walks of life have reevaluated their priorities in the face of a global pandemic. That reevaluation has led some students to take a break from school.

A crowd of several-hundred, most of them former students and faculty, were on hand May 3 for a joyous and hearty Open House and Rededication Ceremony of the campus of the former Ennis High School at 501 N. Gaines St.
