Ennis Public Library moved a huge step closer to its January move-in of its renovated location when City Commissioners voted unanimously, 6-0, on September 17, to approve $347,195 for new shelving and furniture. Temporary facilities currently utilize 115 W. Brown St. (the old Municipal Building), while the old is made new at West Ennis Avenue – between South Gaines and South Preston.
On September 10, 2024, Tiffany Calhoun of Ennis Golden Circle Senior Activity Center, presented to the members of the National Active and Retired Association (NARFE) Chapter 1191 the facts about Ennis Golden Center. It is nonprofit and not funded by the City of Ennis. The EGC is located on 1700 N. Floyd Street in Ennis, Texas, but it is open to all residents of Ellis County. Members have to be 55 and pay $60/ year or $5/month for membership. The facility is open 9 a.m. til 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and has a continental breakfast and light lunch for people attending this facility. Visit the lobby of TSLAC’s headquarters in the Capitol Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 17 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and pick up a free, pocket-sized version of the U.S. Constitution. The Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building houses important state government records and also provides access to federal government publications.
