Ennis Athletic Director Don Drake introduced Jesse Tovar as the new Head Coach of Boys Soccer on Wednesday, May 24.

A stellar freshman year at Ferris High School didn’t end until Arieanna Jefferson earned second place in the Class 4A triplejump at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

Ennis soccer introduced the first of two moves when Kailea Blaine, the assistant coach for two seasons under former Head Coach Lonnie Pollard, was elevated to Head Coach.

Last Wednesday’s display against Italy by the No. 1 ranked Crawford Pirates, which included three homers, was a one-sided whipping that turned the Class 2A Regional Quarterfinal into a 20-2 spanking. Two days later in Waco, No. 7 Italy rose from the mat with a resolve that held Crawford scoreless until late in the game when the Bucs mustered just enough to get past the Lady Gladiators (32-6-1) in a 4-0 triumph.

Avalon High School sophomore Jake Ozymy finished in third place in the 800 meters at the State Track & Field Championships last weekend in Austin. It was his second straight year to qualify for the University Interscholastic League Class 1A final.

Ennis 5’9 Middle Blocker Ja’Mya Williams signed with Cisco Junior College after playing four years of varsity volleyball under HC Kelly Henderson.

Former three-time Class 5A state qualifier in the high jump, Ennis grad, Katherine Stuckly, took second at the Sun Belt Conference Track & Field Championship for Texas State. The meet was held May 14 at Lafayette, La.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University, the only four-year college in Ellis County, won the NCCAA National Championship on Thursday in Kansas City with a 7-4 win over Columbia University.

A local student, Zabian Zuniga, will formally accept the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22. The ceremony will be held at the downtown Gazebo at Minnie McDowell Park at the corner of North Dallas St., and W. Knox St. The public is invited.

Bump, set and spike are the rage in the Ennis Girls City Volleyball League this year. In fact, Saturday, May 21, they finish their season with all seven teams in a one-day playoff tournament at the BF Thomas Gym. It is located behind Alamo Sixth Grade School.
