After taking first place at last week’s District 14-5A meet, senior hurdler Ca’Terrin Cox finished fourth at this week’s Area Meet in the 300 hurdles with a 38.48 time, and was third in the 110 hurdles, clocked at 14.47. Both of them were personal bests, according to Coach Stephen Marrow. Junior thrower, Heath Vernor, was first in the discus at 186’8. It was a personal record.

Ennis football will report for spring camp on Monday, April 18, and continue several days a week before ending with an intra-squad scrimmage slated for May 13.

No. 4 state-ranked Corsicana rallied from behind to nip Ennis, 4-3, on Tuesday night. For the Lions, who fell to 8-11 overall and 3-4 in District 14-5A, it was their fourth one-run setback in league play. They have held opponents to six runs or less in 14-of-19 games, and are feeling the heat to earn a post-season berth. Corsicana, who won their fourth straight one-run decision, are 16-3-1 in all games and 8-1 in district competition.

Ennis wasted a dominating first four innings against Red Oak by squandering a 3-0 lead in what became a disheartening 5-3 defeat.

Corsicana took a bold step in righting the onceproud Tigers high school football program. On Monday they announced the hire of Aric Sardinea as head coach following six years at Class 6A Alief Elsik.

Right-hander Ragan Tucker fired a no-hit shutout on Monday in a Palmer softball 11-0 blanking of Rice. She did not issue a walk and, had it not been for an error, she would have pitched a perfect game.

Avenging a heart-breaking 11-10 loss at home at the hands of Malakoff three weeks ago, Palmer (17-9) grabbed a fast 6-0 lead, and after the Tigers leveled the score at 6-6, the Barkers busted loose to score the game’s final 11 runs in a 17-6 rout.

A pair of four-running rallies built a quick 8-0 lead and Ennis went on to thump Red Oak, 8-5, at Buddy Groom Field on Tuesday. The triumph lifted the Lions to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in District 14-5A.
