Sophomore at Avalon is the second in his family to qualify for the State Track & Field meet, held May 13-14, in Austin. The 5’7 blur qualified for the 800-meter run (two laps) with a 2:04.27 time in League City. He also reached state as a freshman when he finished sixth. Jake practices at both Italy H.S. and Ennis JrHi, as Avalon has no track facilities. Khris Marshall, Supt. of Avalon ISD, serves as his coach.

Ennis played themselves into the thick of a photo-finish among Class 5A thoroughbreds with an impressive 4-0 triumph over Cleburne on Tuesday in Ennis. The third win in as many games gave the Lions a shot at second place heading into Friday’s (Apr. 29) regular season finale at Cleburne.

Three Ennis pitchers combined on a three-hit, 4-0 shutout of Cleburne on Tuesday to move a step closer to clinching a playoff berth.

A stellar pitching performance by senior Aubree Lalani wasn’t enough as Royse City scored runs in the first and fifth to slip past Ennis, 2-1, on Wednesday.

Former Ennis tennis standout, Benjamin Erdmann, continues his winning ways at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He has led the way for the Moundbuilders, who played in the semi-finals of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference in Topeka against Kansas Wesleyan on April 29.

No. 7 ranked Italy blasted Bosqueville (14-6) on Thursday, 19-2, in Waco, for a 1-0 series lead in the first round. Senior hurler Emily Janek kept the Bulldogs in-check and hit one of two home runs for the Lady Gladiators (29-3-1). Da’Naisia McCowan, a senior right-fielder, went yard with a long-distance call during a hit-parade for HC Tina Richards’ crew.

Former All-District football player Jarveon Williams is preparing for his sophomore season at Northeastern State University, located in Tahlequah, Ok.
