Former Ennis standout, Taylor Daniell jacked two massive bombs for Tarleton State last weekend, both in the same game against Abilene Christian.

Fresh from completing the winningest season in her four years in Ennis, HC Karah Kinder, announced her resignation to pursue another non-coaching position within Ennis ISD.

In an official press release on Thursday, Ennis Athletic Director Don Drake declared the new softball Head Coach for the Lady Lions as Casey Waterman. An assistant coach with Karah Kinder for the past two seasons, the move was well received when Drake informed the team on Wednesday.

A much-improved season had an earlier than desired ending on April 29 when Ennis (19-10-1) came up short at Royse City (25-7-1), 9-3, to complete a 2-0 series loss in the Class 5A playoffs. Despite outhitting the Bulldogs in both games, 4-1 in Tuesday’s 2-1 setback, and 10-6 last Friday in Game Two, pitching walks and defensive errors proved costly for Ennis.

Ennis will play an intra-squad scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, at Lion Memorial Stadium. Admission is free. Former players, limited to those who are part of “the family,” those who played for HC Sam Harrell, are invited to the sideline for the scrimmage.

Contending to the end, Ennis baseball, as they have throughout the 12-game district season, proved highly competitive, yet ended in too many of the smallest margins possible. The Lions were on the receiving end of their sixth one-run loss to finish in a four-way tie for third place in District 14-5A after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cleburne on April 29.

Following an affirmative vote by the Italy School Board on April 27, Superintendent Rachel Kistner introduced new Athletic Director and football Head Coach, Lee Wilkins.
